Solar panels in Turkey Street

Enfield publishes a Turkey Street conservation-area map and associated Article 4 information. The station, street and wider neighbourhood are not interchangeable boundaries. Check the map and the wording of any direction for your property.

Ask the council about the proposed work rather than simply asking whether solar is allowed. A drawing showing the roof slope, panel projection, inverter location and visible cabling gives a more useful starting point. Conservation-area status does not by itself prohibit all solar installations.

The best-performing roof slope and the least visually prominent slope may be different. Request generation estimates for the feasible alternatives, using the same tariff assumptions. That makes any design compromise clearer.

If a rear extension or outbuilding is being considered, ask about roof structure, waterproofing, shading and the cable run back to the supply. A different location can introduce costs and constraints of its own.

Certification, planning approval and network connection deal with different questions. Confirm who prepares each submission and whether work must wait for a response. Keep approvals and final drawings with the installation paperwork so future repairs follow the agreed layout.
